To Protect or To Abolish? The US has dropped airstrikes on Iran at the Afghanistan border, where refugees sought shelter in the country. The infamous crisis of “The Exploitation of refugees entering the country” at the Afghan committee, had the delegates soar through this debate, either wanting to exploit these refugees or protect their rights. The first vice president at the Afghan committee believes that “we should invite the UNHCR”, while the other delegates stand by the cabinet should abolish this issue at hand. - Farah AbuHassan |

Why 'Sana Organization'? Sana organization is a charity that empowers people with disabilities to surpass the same milestones as any other person. They ensure that each individual they work with receives the same opportunities in life, whether it be finding a job or acquiring an education, aiming for their treatment as an equal in society. Newar Said, the co-head of the finance team, says "it is extremely unfair that individuals with disabilities are overlooked, so Ali Tarawneh and I felt it would be fitting it advocate for this cause at the I'MUN '21 conference." The head of the finance department Newar Said and Ali Tarawneh hope that through the donation to the Sana Organization, more disabled people could receive a quality education as well as a job that helps them reach their dreams. - Jude Baloula |

Palestinian Delegates A truly welcoming ambiance and environment, as Antwan Shomali described it, an eleventh grader in Jerusalem School Bethlehem, his first experience in I'MUN'21. He expressed the hospitality he felt as the head of internationals, Fadi Ishaq escorted the delegates and welcomed them. He is eager to socialize and debate in the Human Rights Council committee. Bshara Kawas, president of UNODC from the Jerusalem School Bethlehem, expresses his gratitude to the organization of the conference as it is an exceptional conference special to his heart, as it is when he discovered his debating skills. "It is the best I'MUN experience I have ever been to as it is exhilarating to inspire other peoples like I was once inspired in I'MUN." - Youmna Al Jazy |

What Makes a Delegate Lovable? While staff and security were gathered at coffee break today, many of the staff pointed out that they “love” the delegate of China in HRC. But why? What makes a delegate lovable? I rushed to the HRC committee and announced to each delegate to write on a piece of paper as to whom their most lovable delegate is. As the notes were passed to the front, one by one, almost each piece of paper had “China” written on it. Then I asked “What makes a delegate lovable?”; the answers varied from “honest” “not egotistical”, “The delegate of China makes us laugh”, and “happy”. It was clear that the definition of lovable was filled with joy in the HRC committee. - Farah AbuHassan |

What Happened in the Backroom Meeting? The second crisis has begun at the Afghanistan committee, as “the Taliban have invaded two major cities in Afghanistan”. The minister of education, the minister of defense, the minister of finance, and the president entered a private meeting with Ahmad Massoud (Former Acting Minister of Defense of Afghanistan). All we know is that the president entered this meeting with an NDA agreement in his hand. “I want all the conditions and terms to be clear”, The minister of education states. Yet, the president rushed to state “I want to announce to the public that we are going to welcome these hostages in, and provide them with their rights and the necessary needs”. However, when entering this meeting the president seemed to have a trick up his sleeve, what will it be? Is it possible that they could betray the rest of the committee? - Farah AbuHassan |

Fringes
“I am proud to be a head of the fringe team, we worked really hard and are proud to see our efforts in action, and the delegates seem to be really enjoying it”, states Jenna Abu Lughod, the head of fringes team in I’MUN. Along with the entirety of the fringes team, they incur an element of suspense and intrigue in the I’MUN conference as a whole. Fringes are a concept that are solely present in I’MUN, they are crisis committees that have been active for several years, and can be crises that range from any time period. The members distribute delegates of the two committees, Afghanistan Cabinet and African Union, a secret role. Through the crises that come up from each committee, they are tasked with achieving their personal agenda. In the fringes committee, there are no resolutions, they are simply entitled as ‘directives’. Furthermore, there's a backroom which these directives are sent to, and if the backroom accepts it then it's announced to the committee. A debate ensues, and the crisis occurs again. An honorable mention goes to the Afghanistan Cabinet’s members due to the realism they exhibit in wearing Afghan attire.
The fringes team also sends out emails to the delegates before they arrive to reduce the amount of paper used.
Crises proliferated among the two fringe committees of I'MUN, where a series of unfortunate events occurred and struck the Afghanistan Cabinet and African Union. A backroom agent from the Afghanistan Cabinet gave a snippet regarding their plans towards the committee, as the Taliban have already invaded three cities. Subsequently, the president's son was kidnapped by the Taliban, and the first Vice President and Minister of Telecommunications got married.
On the other hand, the African Union was debating the notion of the shares on the Nile river, arguing who gets more water. This was followed by an intense discussion of a dam being built on the Nile: Ethiopia a proponent of the building of a dam whereas Egypt opposes the construction of the barrier. As the delegate of Egypt states, “they will kill my people because they use water for agriculture”.

Eco Team At this year’s I’MUN, the Eco Team took a step further into taking better care of the environment and our surroundings with their eye-opening dedication. During lunch breaks, the Eco Team made sure that no food or drink went to waste, with 97% of aluminum ended up in recycling. Further, the Eco Team ensured that wasteful paper usage was kept to an extreme minimum, recycling and reusing when appropriate. I’MUN 21 produced a mere 3 liters of soda waste, a major success in relation to previous years. In addition, the Eco Team has stated, “we intend to plant as many fruit trees as possible in our IAA garden and around Amman separately”, with an additional carbon offset initiative being led. When asked how they plan to grow their initiatives for years to come, the Eco Team replied, “we intend to find ways where the entire I’MUN menu may be compostable allowing inevitable food waste to be made useful. Moreover, transportation initiatives will also be implemented once COVID subsides.” - Farah AbuHassan |
