BRIEF
At the beginning of the year 2020, the world witnessed an outbreak of an infectious disease known as the Coronavirus. This virus was quickly announced as a global pandemic and was a crisis that turned everyone’s lives upside down. The virus has impacted countries’ economic status, employment rates, health care systems, tourism, trade and several other factors. Research has provided evidence on how fast and easily the virus is transmitted. Reports also revealed that it killed more than 2.5 million people so far. This is because it tackles people's respiratory systems. Nowadays, the topic of whether the spreading of the virus could have been prevented or decreased if countries had preparations for such urgent cases beforehand, is a controversial topic popular in the media. People debate that if different measurements were taken, the world would be in a different place.
In this committee delegates are taken back a few months before march 2020 to see and conclude whether the corona crisis could have been prevented or controlled more effectively if different measurements were taken. Leaked information about the virus will be announced to the delegates, and from there, they need to work together to stop the virus from spreading as well as focusing on helping LEDCs (by contributing to international aid). When coming up with ideas the delegates need to take into consideration several aspects including, the citizens’ reactions, economic status, allies, upcoming events, social factors, etc.
The delegates will go through several crises (related to the pandemic) during the three days, some targeting specific countries and others will be global crises. By group discussions and directives, solutions need to be found to reach the ultimate goal of preventing the spread of the virus to this extent. The committee however, has a backroom that rejects some directives and approves others with a consequence. This is why delegates need to plan and be fully aware of every step and decision they make.
