Respected Presidents, Chairs and Delegates,
To begin with, it is with the utmost pride that the Secretariat team welcomes you to this year’s I’MUN conference, by the theme of “A Political Pandemic”. A theme that manages to correlate to each of the most pressing issues of our modern day world, namely the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. My name is Isam Mina, and I will be one of your Deputy Secretary Generals at this year’s conference. Model United Nations has played a huge role in shaping my high school years, having attended a plethora of different conferences as a delegate, chair and president. While it is unprecedented to have a tenth grader within the Secretariat team, let alone two, this only serves as a driving force for myself in my endeavor as an MUN fanatic. After having attended 14 conferences, I have managed to deconstruct the misconception behind MUN. Many have not been able to understand the core values that are the groundwork for the 3-day conferences we attend. Model United Nations is an arena for activism, it is a place where ideas are turned into feasible solutions proposed by today’s youth. It is a platform that enables us to use our voices, speak our minds and assert our opinions on the circumstances that face us today, and undoubtedly in the future. |
At I’MUN, we take it upon us to ensure that the coming generation of delegates understand the true importance of engaging in polarizing discussions about real-world problems. For it is, unequivocally, the delegates that make a conference what it is. Having been the Deputy Head of Training for last year’s conference, I have come to discern the value of training, and I intend to work tirelessly this year to ensure the I’MUN conference is in safe hands.
I would like to end this with a note of appreciation to my fellow members of the Secretariat team, and every team member who is working assiduously to make this conference the best it can be. A special thank you to our Principal and MUN Coordinator Mr. Martin, for giving us all the opportunity to give back to our school, the International Academy – Amman.
I am looking forward to seeing you there,
Sincerely,
Deputy Secretary General
