The International Academy - Amman is proud to host its annual Model United Nations Conference, I'MUN '22, on October 27th. This is an entirely student-run and organised initiative. Our student organising committee has logged in many months of hard work.
I'MUN is a conference which tackles the world's most pressing and relevant issues, creating a powerful learning experience which is engraved in the minds of all who attend it.
Established in 2011, I'MUN has always aimed to stand out. This is why it is the only conference at which you will find "Fringes". "Fringes" is a unique and never before seen concept which approaches different crises in creative, engaging and authentic ways.
Nowadays the only thing left to our own self-liberty is our thoughts, but today even that is under threat. Today and every day, we are shelled with hundreds if not thousands, if not millions of sounds, images, ideas. Every day we are told what to think, how to think it and when to think it. Today we live in a world where there is no such thing as originality … or we are led to believe so.
Every institution we see around us; the state, free media, the UN, every one of them has its own set of goals. An agenda. Free thought has been conquered by political parties and institutions. Every democrat, every republican, every capitalist, every communist is handed a strict set of ideals which he has ordered to forevermore cherish; if our opinion doesn’t fit neatly into a previously conjured theory, it is no longer relevant. This “Monopoly on Thought” has made us, the people at our most vulnerable position.
Today we are lambs being led blindly to the slaughter, but tomorrow that doesn’t have to be the case. The responsibility falls to us future generations: we cannot afford to continue being willingly fed our thoughts. Today and forever, we make ourselves heard. Today we speak over the cacophony of injustice. Today we reject the “Monopoly on Thought”.
